I charge by the word, with rates depending on the level of editing required. Prices are in CAD and subject to tax.

Levels of editing support

Editing can take different forms depending on where you are in the process. Here’s a breakdown of the kinds of support I offer, from early drafts through final submission.

Copyediting

Copyediting checks grammar, usage, punctuation, and consistency.

When copyediting, I provide:

  • Covers grammar, usage, punctuation, consistency, and adherence to style guides.

Rate

$0.04–$0.06/word + tax

Proofreading

Proofreading is the final check before submission. 

When proofreading, I provide:

  • Final check for typos, spacing, and formatting errors before submission.

Rate

$0.03–$0.05/word + tax

Stylistic Editing

Stylistic editing focuses on how the text reads at the sentence and paragraph level.

When doing stylistic editing, I provide:

  • Refines tone, rhythm, and flow while preserving your style and voice.

Rate

$0.06–$0.08/word + tax

Developmental Editing

Developmental editing addresses the text as a whole, focusing on structure, argument, and scope.

When doing developmental editing, I provide:

  • Assesses structure, argument, and scope; includes margin comments and a revision memo.
